SELLRAIN

Sellrain is a municipality in the Innsbruck Land district of the Austrian federal state of Tyrol .

  • Number of inhabitants: 1363 (2001)

  • Area: 62.0 km²

Sellrain is the main village in the Sellrain Valley , a side valley of the Inn Valley . The municipality lies at the foot of the 2577 meter high Windegg and is flowed by the river Melach .

The village has developed around the ferrous natural water source Rothenbrunn, which already attracted the attention of both noble residents and citizens of Innsbruck in the Middle Ages . The village church was built in 1705 following the example of the pilgrimage church in St. Quirin. This pilgrimage church is located on a slope and is decorated with late Gothic murals and carved carvings from around 1400 and 1500.

The Fotschertal is a hiking, tobogganing and ski area. The municipality connects the different villages by means of 36 bridges. Unlike the other municipalities in the Sellrain Valley, Gries im Sellrain and St. Sigmund im Sellrain , Sellrain itself is not overwhelmed by tourism, but as a true Austrian you experience the whole neighborhood.

Sellrain belongs to the mountaineering villages in the Sellrain Valley, it is about 20 minutes away from Innsbruck. Here begins the untouched alpine nature, which hikers, mountaineers and ski touring enthusiasts love. Thanks to its location at the entrance of the valley, Sellrain is quickly in Innsbruck. And just as quickly at the start of numerous tours in the Tyrolean mountain world. The Kühtai ski area is just a short drive away or with the free ski bus.

Sellrain in the summer

In summer, numerous tours to the surrounding mountains lure: leisurely hut hikes, altitude hikes, theme trails and the ascent to a mountain peak at more than 3,000 meters. Sellrain has the "Bergsteigerdorf" quality mark, a prerequisite for this: unspoiled nature far away from mass tourism.
